For the mer!AU that's sweeping the fandom at the moment.

He’s an angler fish. Specifically one called the Triplewart Seadevil, or Cryptopsaras couesii.

I realize only the female angler fish look like the pictures you commonly see of them. That’s why I designed him as a hermaphrodite with mainly female characteristics for his fishy parts. He does have both sets of reproductive organs, which is actually a thing in the world of angler fish since the tiny males actually fuse to the females to provide them with a means to fertilize themselves. So he’s actually able to both fertilize eggs and get pregnant. Yay biology.

...I think I made him a hermaphrodite in every AU I have where he's not human haha.
