Things hadn't been the same since the moon incident. Considering the general attitude of Mr. Perkins, that was understandable. He was in a rage after getting a call from his son, who had been stranded on the moon by his archenemy. If that wasn't a situation for anger, nothing was. The only problem his son had with all of it was the way Mr. Perkins expressed and directed his anger, the habit he had of taking things out on his child that weren't even his fault.
"You mean to tell me that I have to use my precious money to get you home now, Victor?" he had bellowed over the video communicator his son had luckily had with him.
"I keep telling you, dad, Victor was my nerd name! Call me by my cool villain name! It's Vector now!" He was even more hurt by the yelling because his father had a habit of using peoples' names in conversation, and it almost seemed now that he used his real name as an insult.
"Does it look like I care?" Mr. Perkins pointed to his face, which rarely changed to a smile and definitely wouldn't today. He sighed. "You're in for a world of trouble when you get back to Earth..."

A few hundred thousand miles and probably more than a hundred thousand yelling matches later, both father and son were once again in their respective houses, leading their respective lives. But as was mentioned before, things never really went back to normal. It was like the neverending argument that had taken place permanently altered both of their moods. Mr. Perkins's habit of rarely talking with his son turned into a habit of never talking with him, and Vector became increasingly lonely in his house with no one to talk to, and no friends to invite over.
There really was nothing much to do. Since Gru had now adopted three kids, he had far less time to be a villain. Therefore, there was hardly any time to fight him. This made Vector realize that really, fighting with people was most of what he did to pass his time. No wonder he was always lonely. He couldn't even remember the last time he had attempted to make a friend.
In his half-subconscious need for companionship, he had advertised for "minions" to help with chores around the house. He didn't know it then, but what he was really looking for was people he could make friends with, clean slates to make a new impression on. He had gotten applications, and gave the people who applied an interview date.
"Oh great, that's today!" he remembered suddenly, and jumped up from his couch. He ran to his bedroom and threw on a fresh bright orange warmup suit, stopping in front of a mirror to make sure the upturned collar was straight. He was ready just in time for the doorbell to ring.
"Hello?" a voice said over the intercom.
Vector didn't even bother with his video screen. He just opened the gates so the person could come in. He was ready to let anyone in at the moment, and just give them the job. He really didn't feel like giving an interview, but what else was new? He had never been good with conversation. He didn't even know what he was going to ask yet.
When the knock finally came on his door, he opened it and let whoever it was stroll freely in. It could have been Gru ready to freeze his head again, and he just might've let him.
"Um, hi..."
"Hey," Vector said with out looking up. Perfect, no eye contact. First slip-up of many sure to happen, accomplished. He decided he should at least make it look like he cared, so he lifted his head and attempted to make eye contact.
"I'm here for the job..." the voice he had previously had no face to associate with belonged to a girl who looked a bit younger than him, with blonde hair, blue eyes, and glasses. She looked a bit nerdy, actually. Not really nerdy, but at least a little awkward. That gave him a bit of relief. At least he wouldn't be dealing with some hotshot who thought they were better than everyone else.
"Come sit down then," he said. "I just need to ask a couple questions before I give you the job... I mean, if you qualify..." He kicked himself in his mind. He was being so awkward! He hadn't been this awkward any time he could remember since the big fights with his dad. He really felt like a different person now.
The girl sat down and eagerly started a conversation for herself. "I heard about your work on the news..." She smiled as if that was a triumph. "I like your style."
"W-wait, what?" he questioned. He was slightly taken aback since he had never really met anyone his age who appreciated him.
"Why do you look so startled?" she asked. "I mean, you're the number one villain in the world. I follow the top ten list like a religion."
"Yeah, I guess..." He smiled. He noticed he was starting to get his confidence back. "So, about those questions... There's really only one important one. Are you or have you ever worked for anyone else?"
"Never." The girl shook her head vigorously. It was kind of funny, really. Overly exaggerated but you could tell that was how she did it all the time. "I'm fresh out of college. Majored in biology."
"Regular or marine?" he said suddenly. He couldn't believe it, but he was actually having a conversation for once.
"Regular." She was blushing a bit now. He could tell this was just as awkward for her, and that made him feel even more confident. "But as for marine, I was really into sharks when I was younger..."
"Really?" he said. "Then I'm surprised you haven't noticed the floor!" He indicated the glass floor with a shark tank underneath.
"Is that a real shark down there?" the girl asked, amazed.
"He's my pet," he answered. "He doesn't listen sometimes, but he's cool to have."
"That's awesome! Where do I sign to get this job?"
"Right here," he said, holding out a clipboard with a piece of paper clipped to it.
"Epic." She filled out the form and signed her name at the bottom, then handed it back to him.
"Corinne, huh? You don't see a name like that too often," he said.
"Wow, I don't hear it pronounced right the first time too often! Thanks!" She beamed.
"No problem," he said, noticing his face getting a bit hot. He felt this stupid smile on his face but he could do nothing to get rid of it. "So... I'll show you to your room and tomorrow I'll go over the things I need done around here..." He walked her down a few hallways until they arrived at a single orange door in the bright white wall. "This is it. Make yourself at home."
He waited until she had gone inside and then walked away, hugging the clipboard with her application form on it to his chest. "Thank you..." he whispered to no one in particular.
Yep I'm doing this. Cuz I'm on vacation now, I'm bored, and I'm obsessed with Vector. :XD:

My Despicable Me self is more realistic. I'm really an awkward nerd. :XD:
